HAMMERLOCK was formed in San Francisco, CA by vocalist/guitarist TRAVIS KENNEY and his wife and bass player, LIZA JANE KENNEY.

Travis, hailing from Arvada, CO just outside of Denver got his first guitar from his grandfather at age 13. Playing old country standards at first, he eventually discovered rock'n'roll, blended the two genres, never to look back.

Liza Jane comes from a musical family (one cousin, Chris Miller has played with Wayne Hancock and is currently on tour with Marcia Ball, while another cousin, Ian Miller, plays with Poison Idea), and started playing guitar and singing with her family before her teens. Writing music and trying her hand on any instrument she could find, Liza Jane took up the bass just three years ago, and has been thumping ever since.

HAMMERLOCK, by funding the recording of their own CD, were able to get the attention of Frank Kozik and Man's Ruin Records. This connection eventually led to their first 7" ("Knock Her Out"/"Battlefield") in May of 1997. After continuing to plug away in the Bay Area music scene, Man's Ruin released HAMMERLOCK's first full length release, "American Asshole". This critically acclaimed release featured such hits as "Whiskey Drinkin' Woman", "Take Me Down The Road" and "I Shot Her Down".
